Soiree was made up of Sue Graves, Hector Gilchrist and Steve Poole. Formed in 2005 Steve and Sue had been in the groups ‘Noddy’s Lot’ and ‘Voiceover’ respectively, performing around the local folk scene, pubs, parties and festivals. Hector is an established solo artist, singer of traditional Scottish, Irish and English songs, contemporary material and his speciality – the works of Robert Burns. We sort of morphed into a group with no plan as such, just an intention to play music for the sheer joy of it. And that is what we did! Most of our songs were uplifting, serotin-enhancing, life-affirming and fun, but also a few sad and miserable ones – after all, we are folkies at heart! We sang our pick of the world’s most beautiful songs, with harmony vocals, harmonica and acoustic guitars. We did lots of lovely gigs for nice people, had loads of fun and laughter and generally enjoyed ourselves very much. Nothing lasts forever though, and Steve left at the end of 2015 due to his increasing number of solo gigs. Sue and Hector continue to perform as a duo but we all continue to be friends and Steve is always up for a ‘soiree’! You can still see many of our moments of glory (and near misses), kazoo klassics and synchronized jumps from various ‘live’ performances on our YouTube channel and elsewhere on the net.
Thanks to all of you who came along to our gigs – it would have been an empty experience without you. Thanks also for buying the CDs – just about gone. In the meantime, we hope to see you at all of the usual places in the future.
